Everyone knows the proper way to behave at a raid, right? Well, you'd be wrong with that assumption. Some people show up with the best intentions and then something, somewhere, goes horribly wrong. But we like you. Or at least, we think we do. So this is a reference page - a guideline for how to do things properly. Use it how you will.
Show Up On Time
Very simple, and very easy, you'd think. But some people just aren't good with time, or their timezones don't synch up with the server, or something goes wrong. For a planned raid, raid leaders like to know what their group makeup is going to be. And if you no-show because of some accident, or just plain forget, well, they're likely to be a little annoyed. So do yourself a favor - show up before the call time. Even if it's just by ten minutes, the raid will know that you mean business, and that you're dedicated.
Don't Disappear
It's online, and you'll never have to see these people in person (probably), but don't be a jerk about it. Remember, real people exist behind those usernames, even if it
is Darthsmelly. If you have to leave a raid early, let the raid leader - and even the raid at large - know
beforehand. If something drastic comes up (it's real life, so something is bound to eventually), and you don't have
time to let the raid know, at least send a message later through the in-game mail and let them know your cat was on fire.
Don't Be a Loot Whore
Yes, yes, we
know you were waiting for those pants for five months, but you have to live by whatever loot rules your raid is going by. And if you lose, don't whine constantly until someone reports you for spamming. It's not an endearing quality. (Remember, it's a video game. You don't
actually get a six-foot scythe in real life.) At the same time, you need to know how to best serve your friends. If you're with a friend who could use the upgrade even more, know when to give up the loot. Raids work better when everyone is geared about the same. If you got all of the shiny loot, you'd better be prepared to carry everyone else you took it from.
Do Some Studying
Going into a brand new raid and then spending all of your time on the floor isn't too fun. Not as fun as blasting the boss with fire, anyhow. There are plenty of resources for reading or watching videos of fights. Often, videos help you the best, since you can see exactly what happens and what all of the effects look like. Don't rely 100% on the raid leader to explain absolutely everything, since raid leaders are human and can forget things. Instead, do your research, and figure out what you're supposed to be doing - and what you're
not supposed to be doing. As a bonus, you can also see what loot drops this way!
